As a professional vocalist, Megan is able to offer a wealth of knowledge in a multitude of genres helping me to be a more versatile vocalist. Megan works in a way that is encouraging, inspiring and really tailors her teaching style to each individual student. I am a visual learner and tend to overthink when it comes to technique and Megan knows exactly how to get a technique based response by using visual language for me. She is a believer that acting should influence the sound which has helped me grow not just as a singer but as a performer. Not only is Megan an incredible teacher and much loved by everyone she teaches, but is also a performer herself which gives so much value to her teaching because it comes from a place of knowledge and understanding. She is also someone who goes above and beyond with the effort she puts into her students and I feel so grateful and honoured to learn from her.

During my University studies, I was was very fortunate to have Megan as my private singing teacher and mentor. As an industry professional, writer, composer and vocal consultant, Megan made sure that the training and knowledge I received was tailored to serve me as an individual moving into the industry. By helping me understand my voice, the way it works, as well as applying new and different vocal techniques, Megan allowed me to hone my skills and create my best sounding instrument, that is most individual to me. After graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, I have continued my vocal training with Megan at her private studio. Megan is a dear friend and mentor. She creates a safe, positive learning environment for all of her students and promotes positive learning and growth for all of her students.

Working with Megan on my singing has completely changed the way I view myself as a performer and what I am capable of achieving. Her approach really brings out the true voice of the individual, and allows the the best possible sounding ‘you’ to shine with confidence.

I studied with Megan for two years. Her teachings opened my eyes (and ears) for the first time to the nuance possible in the human voice. I'd always believed it enough to sing accurate pitches loudly. This is all singing was to me. Megan showed me otherwise and in doing so, showed me the standard of the world stage. She showed me colour, and pacing, and flow and a million different ways of finding emphasis without resorting to volume. She opened my eyes to possibilities of acting through song that I had never before encountered. I will always be grateful for my time with Megan Shorey.

Where to start? Megan Shorey is an absolute gift. Her lessons have equipped me with solid technique, allowing me the freedom to play, and trust my instrument. Rather than applying one rule to all, she caters her lessons to the individual - ensuring that every student shines in their own unique way; enabling them to own their own sound, and believe in it. Because of her, I now have the ability to make deliberate, intelligent vocal choices, safely; which is the key to longevity in such a demanding industry. Having worked and lived in both Australia and the UK, I can attest to the fact that you’d be hard-pressed to find another teacher as gifted in their field - on this side of the pond, or the other.

- Jagged Little Pill

(GWB Entertainment) - Nick Healy

Liam Head is currently performing as “Nicholas Healy”, in Alanis Morrisette's highly acclaimed new musical, “Jagged Little Pill”, touring Australia with MT and film icons, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Tim Draxl. He started his professional journey whilst still studying at the con with Vocal Coach, Megan Shorey. Megan helped him navigate his bright-eyed and gung-ho approach to vocal technique, leading to more professional and sustainable vocal habits. Megan was everything and more than what he needed in a singing teacher. She was a friend, a tutor, and an artist - the perfect mix. Liam looks forward to continue his training with Megan in the years to come, knowing he has found an invaluable, personal vocal coach.

In a very short space of time, Megan Shorey helped me unlock and hone different parts of my voice that I was unable/yet to discover. Not only did she help me find my voice, she helped me understand how to control it. What I find so valuable about the way Megan teaches is not just the technicality but how she stays true to my authentic vocal sound and has a clear understanding of artistry that she doesn’t change for each artist,  but helps shine. As a vocalist I can say that she has helped me discover what I am capable of on a technical and performative level. It is hard to find a teacher that gives this type of training and I thank her for getting me to an industry level to maintain this numerous times a week on tour.

I’ve had the absolute honour and privilege of having Megan as my singing teacher for the last two years. From our very first lesson together, Megan instantly was able to create a safe space in the studio that made me feel comfortable to explore, discover and grow as a vocalist and performer. Not only was she able to help me unlearn old habits but also helped me understand and apply new vocal techniques and performance methods that are healthy and sustainable.

Megan goes above and beyond for her artists, by catering her teaching style to each individual person. Personally I’m a visual learner and every lesson Megan was able to come up with hilarious metaphors and analogies that helped me grow exponentially. As more than just a vocal coach, her focus on storytelling has helped me immensely as a musical theatre performer as well as a vocalist in various genres. With years of professional experience, Megan has a wealth of knowledge of the professional musical theatre industry and played a key part in my journey heading into my first professional Musical tour. I’m looking forward to discovering and exploring more in the studio with Megan.

Words cannot describe how much I value Megan as a singing teacher and mentor. Megan has the warmest, most generous spirit, which creates a very supportive environment allowing you to discover, make mistakes and grow – judgment free! She not only trains the voice, but trains the mind of a performer too - helping break down those mental blocks we all love to throw up.

One of Megan’s best qualities as a teacher is that she very quickly recognizes what learning style works best for you and adapts her teaching accordingly. I honestly believe this versatility, as a teacher, is why her students continue to have such an incredible journey of growth.

As an experienced performer herself, Megan’s knowledge and expertise of how to approach singing from the actor’s perspective is why I keep coming back for more. A kick ass woman through and through!
